What Size Heating Do I Need for My Place?

to calculate the size of your heating system “Furnace” there is some factors involve such as: type of home isolation, if your place is an apartment, as for example if you live in apartment on the last floor up, you will be using more heat from your neighbor who live in middle floor, the average national heat calculation for Chicago area is somewhere in between 45 – 50 BTU for Every 1 Square Foot.

If you have a house of 1200 Sq.Ft

1200 x 50 = 60,000 BTU /1200 x 45 = 54,000 BTU

you will need a furnace with Output BTU of 54,000 to 60,000 BTU.

So if we have a furnace with input of 80,000 BTU and 80% efficiency:80,000 x 0.8 = 64,000 BTU.

In the above example you will need a furnace size of 80,000 or 70,000 BTU.

and if you need a high efficiency furnace 95% + where it needs more work and needs to install PVC exhaust a 60,000 BTU furnace can be installed.
